Kimberley Walsh had her first taste of acting when she appeared in a George for ASDA advertisement as a child. In the 1990s, Kimberley Walsh starred as the younger version of Cosette in the West End production of Les Misérables and joined the productions of the Bradford-based theater school, Stage 84. In 2000, Kimberley Walsh starred in the BBC Educational program for schools called “Focus” and appeared in the TV series “This is Personal: The Hunt for the Yorkshire Ripper,” playing Gillian Oldfield. In 2001, Kimberley Walsh won the role of Tracy in “Dream Back.”
2002 was a big year for Kimberley Walsh. She joined the ITV1 talent contest “Popstars: The Rivals” and became one of the 10 female finalists, beating thousands of hopefuls. The concept of the show was to produce a girl band and boy band, who would then become “rivals” and compete for the Christmas number one single in 2002. Ten men and ten women were chosen, but Kimberley Walsh wasn’t one of those. Fortunately, two of the female finalists were disqualified and Kimberley, who was included in the top 15, was given a spot on the show. Throughout October and November, 2002, Kimberley Walsh and the other finalists performed live on TV and were voted off one by one until only 5 girls and 5 boys remained. Kimberley was one of the 5 who formed the girl band named “Girls Aloud” and competed against the boy band “One True Voice” to create a single and see which one would become the UK Christmas No.1 Single of 2002. The song by Girls Aloud entitled “Sound of the Underground” won the contest and remained at the top of the charts for four weeks.
From 2002 to 2009, Kimberley Walsh recorded and performed with Girls Aloud. The group released several platinum-certified albums, including “Sound of the Underground,” “What Will the Neighbours Say?,” “Chemistry,” “The Sound of the Girls Aloud: Greatest Hits,” “Tangled Up” and “Out of Control.” They have been nominated for a BRIT award three times, but have only won in 2009 for “Best Single.”
In August 2006, Kimberley Walsh co-hosted an episode of “The Friday Night Project,” where she did an impression of American Idol judge Simon Cowell. In 2008, Kimberley Walsh appeared in “Brittania High.”
In April 2004, Heat magazine named Kimberley Walsh to have the 5th “Best Stomach in the World.” Since 2005, Kimberley Walsh has been listed in FHM’s annual list of “100 Sexiest Woman in the World.” She has ranked #44 in 2005, #66 in 2006, #61 in 2007 and #66 in 2008.
